I am writing this letter to request your support as a sponsor for the Officer Anthony Thompson Scholarship Foundation (OATSF).  OATSF was founded in 2017 following the tragic transition of Anthony Thompson after being killed by a drunk, wrong-way driver who entered the freeway using an off-ramp. Thompson suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

As of 2024, over 15,000 people in California lost their lives within a 5-year span at the hands of intoxicated drivers. The number of accidents related to drivers driving in the wrong way is increasing. Our current legislation states that the legal blood alcohol content (BAC) limit is .08%. The driver who struck Anthony head-on was three times over that legal limit.

 

Anthony Thompson was a remarkable young man who lost his life because of our failure to stop the results of wrong-way drivers. Anthony was a son, brother, friend, nephew, and Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department employee who was loved by all. It is unfortunate that his life ended in such a tragic and senseless manner, but with your help, we can save many more lives. Let’s be proactive and not wait until another tragedy occurs.

Join us as we fight to prevent more needless deaths at the hands of intoxicated and/or wrong-way drivers.  Let us begin by raising awareness for Low Profile Spikes installed at every significant freeway exit in Southern California, changing our current vehicle operator legislation to decrease the legal BAC limit. 

 

By becoming a sponsor, you will assist us in saving lives, less fatalities on the freeways, giving back to the community, and passing a NEW BILL for Thompson's ALERT, which alerts drivers that someone is entering the freeway the wrong way. Unfortunately, Anthony did not survive, but you can help save someone else's child's life.
